The ArtXpress program for teens, is a summer studio-based internship program with the end goal of creating a mural that positively addresses a social justice issue in the city of Milwaukee. This set of teen interns interacted with the Kandinsky: A Retrospective show, drawing from his works On White II and the Juryfreie Mural, recreated from 1922 design, among others for inspiration. The interns also had the chance to discuss works from the show with the Milwaukee Art Museum’s chief curator, Brady Roberts. RedLine Milwaukee partners with the Milwaukee Art Museum for this program. As part of the internship program, the teen interns had the chance to mentor elementary school students from Milwaukee Public Schools, guiding them through the exhibition and then leading a responsive art activity. When completed, the mural was displayed on a Milwaukee County Bus, traveling on its route for the following nine months.
